Creative art kits for children at Henie Onstad Art Centre

Henie Onstad
The Henie Onstad Museum is located on a scenic peninsula, just 15 minutes outside the Norwegian capital. As a leading arena for both national and international art, it features a dynamic exhibition program and a collection of over 8,000 works.
In the museum’s basement, The Lab, children are invited to explore their creativity through hands-on art making. To extend this experience beyond the museum, the shop offers creative kits designed to inspire artistic play at home, providing everything young creators need to continue their exploration.
Our role was to design the packaging and pamphlets for these kits, guiding children through engaging and imaginative tasks. To add to the collection, we created various accessories—including pencil cases and a drawing pad. These items are available in the museum shop and online, allowing visitors to bring a piece of the museum’s artistic spirit home.

Founded in 1968 by figure skater Sonja Henie and her husband, Niels Onstad, the Henie Onstad Museum showcases a diverse range of art forms—from painting and sculpture to experimental and multimedia works. More than just an exhibition space, it’s a dynamic cultural hub, offering concerts, performances, and educational programs for both local and international visitors.
A standout permanent installation is Hymn of Life by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, a mesmerizing experience that’s always on display. The museum also features Sal Merz, a new extension dedicated to the work of Kurt Schwitters, his contemporaries, and his artistic legacy.

Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up
– Pablo Picasso

Why make these kits? Art is great for children as it helps them use their imagination, solve problems, and express themselves. Activities like drawing and painting improve fine motor skills and focus. It’s also a way for them to process emotions, tell stories, and connect with the world around them. Encouraging creativity helps spark curiosity and can lead to a lifelong love of art.

What is possible in art becomes thinkable in life.
